The Roundhouse has a special relationship with light. In the late 1800’s, our grade 2* listed building was the base for Birmingham’s lamplighters, an essential workforce that kept the town going. The lamplighter workforce were respected in the community, and sometimes children would serenade them in gratitude for bringing light to the streets of Victorian Birmingham. 

Celebrate with us this February on one-off tours! Explore our courtyard at night on a Roundhouse by Candlelight tour, or take to the canals on a Bustling Birmingham by Night tour, for a truly unique experience! Or, feeling crafty? Why not make a paper lantern with your friends and family in some free craft sessions, all week long!
