Free things to do in the school holidays at Roundhouse Birmingham
Roundhouse Birmingham are inviting people to come and celebrate the launch of their new season with a range of free heritage themed activities over the Easter holidays.
From 6 April between 11.00 and 15.00, families can take part in free craft workshops in the Roundhouse Event Space. There’s a different activity each day, here’s the full schedule:
Thursday 6 & 13 April – Make a Canal Boat
The Roundhouse is right next to the canal and was a great delivery spot for narrowboats. Join local artist Sue Guthrie to cut out, paint, and decorate your own model canal boat.
Friday 7 & 14 April – Twist and Tag a Horse
Local artist Ruth Carless has been inspired by the horses who used to live at the Roundhouse. Join her for a session making wire sculptures of horses, blackbirds and more; and design a name tag for your creation.
Saturday 8 & 15 April – Build a Roundhouse
Make a colourful mini-model of the Roundhouse, layer by layer. A mix of puzzle and craft with a model to take away. Marvel as your kids work them out before you do.
Sunday 9 & 16 April – Paint a Roundhouse
Paint a mini plaster model of the Roundhouse. Get as creative as you like and take your creation home.
All activities include a free “Local Look Around” trail leaflet for families to explore the local area, including a stop at the magnificent blossom display outside the IKON gallery.

Thursday to Sunday – Free drop in tours of the building at 11.30 and 14.00
For history and architecture lovers, they’re also launching a new free drop in tour of the Grade II* listed building. It’s an interactive tour sharing the history of the Roundhouse and the Victorian people, and horses, who made it a 24/7 hub for the city. Visitors will play a game of Victorian top trumps, hunt for clues in the courtyard and ponder the question – why is it round? Sign up at their Visitor Centre 15 minutes before the start time.
